Frequently Asked Questions
Who pays for vehicle transport?
It is the buyer who will pay for transport. Even after transport costs, you can often end up with a car thousands of dollars cheaper than buying locally.
What insurance will I need?
It is best to speak to your insurer to make sure your car is covered when it arrives. Most transport companies will cover the car for the duration of delivery.
Will I need to pay stamp duty?
Stamp duty is payable in the state or territory where you register the vehicle. So you will not need to pay stamp duty in WA as well as your own state or territory.
Will the new car warranty still be valid in my state or territory?
If the car is still under its new car warranty then it will still apply. It doesn't matter if the car was first registered in WA and then ends up in another state or territory.
Will I need to register the car again?
If you are transporting to NT, QLD, NSW, ACT, VIC, TAS or SA, then you will need to re-register the car in your state. We will deregister the car in WA and surrender the plates. Once the car is registered in your state you will be issued with new licence plates.
What about roadworthy and safety certificates?
Each state is different, but prior to registering the car in your state it may be required to undergo a vehicle safety check. Check with the relevant transport department in your state to find out what is required and the respective costs.
What if there is an issue with the car when it arrives?
If damage occurs to the car during transport, the transport company will be insured to cover any repairs or replacements. If an issue occurs within the relevant warranty period, your car is still covered. If you cannot make it to Perth to inspect the vehicle, Carz4u insists that you have an independent inspector check over the car and provide you with a report. We stand by the cars we sell, but we want our customers to have full confidence prior to buying a car unseen. There are a number of independent inspection companies in Perth.
Can I drive the car from WA to another state?
Yes. You will be able to drive the car into another state using the WA plates or by requesting a temporary movement permit. Each state's rules are different, but you will eventually have to register the car in your own state and return the WA plates to WA's Department of Transport. You also need to factor in the cost of petrol and other transport costs before considering driving. Temporary movement permits are issued by the WA DOT in order to drive an unlicensed vehicle to another Jurisdiction for licensing. You should check the validity of the WA temporary movement permit in other Jurisdictions. Generally, temporary movement permits are only valid for 48 hours from the nominated start time.
Which transport company should I use?
It is over to you which transport company to use. Carz4u has relationships with a number of reputable suppliers and can provide you with quotes. There are certain companies we would recommend keeping away from. Generally we will provide you with the best price for transport to your location using a reputable company and then take care of the rest. You will receive instructions on where your car will be delivered. Delivery directly to your home or work can also be arranged.
Can I still trade my car if I am not in Perth?
It is a little bit more difficult, but if you are in a main center then yes. We can arrange one of our representatives in Sydney, Melbourne or Adelaide to inspect your trade in.
How do I pay for the car and transport?
Carz4u accepts most common payment methods - credit card, direct debit, BPay and payments from finance companies. If financing the car through Carz4u the transport cost can usually be incorporated into your finance contract.
